Stamford Brook House Histories

Stamford Brook works with house-historian Melanie Backe-Hansen to help Residents discover the hidden stories of Stamford Brook.

We are very excited to announce the first steps of our family history programme – the Stamford Brook 'House History Initiative'. This intended as the first of a number of projects aimed at connecting the families who live in Stamford Brook today with the people who lived in their homes in times past.

Intended as a project for all ages, we will be providing materials for families and children as well as for more serious historians. The house histories project will work along side similar projects being run in Strand On The Green, Grove Park and Bedford Park with a focus on the personal and family histories of people who have lived here.

Stamford Brook In Minecraft?

Do your kids play Minecraft and would you like a constructive project to play Minecraft with them?

As a new Stamford Brook project for 2017 we are going to be working with a local tech-start - Chimni - that is trying to encourage young people to engage with design, planning & construction issues in the borough by recreating a part of the local area in Minecraft, the online PC game that claims 100M global users. Our project will be part of a wider 'Chiswick In Minecraft' initiative.

How Do We Categorise Our Histories?

This page is intended to help our resident historians structure the information they collect into searchable data. This will help us build the central Stamford Brook data resource and website that will be the public front page for the project (although you have the final say on what information is made public and what is kept private.

Frol's Great Adventure

Stamford Brook Resident Francis Oliver Cherry, known as 'Frol', was one of the early participants in our House History project. He originally contacted the BPRA (whose House History project kicked off last year), having read the article on Bricks & Brickmaking in Stamford Brook and Bedford Park on our site. Frol was intrigued because he owns a house in Stamford Brook built originally by Thomas Hussey who ran the brickfields that supplied many of the bricks used in Bedford Park and Stamford Brook. Sources Of House History Information

This page is intended to give homeowners in Stamford Brook a headstart in finding out information about their home and the local area. The intention with the project is that we all share our findings informally (by emailing round the group) or more formally through the web tools we are building.
